The Founder

Who is behind Domus Minato?

I am Francesco Cioglia Rothmair, and I founded Domus Minato on 27 August 2025. I wanted to create a place where brand owners and the professionals of the creative economy meet and create value, between Italy and the DACH region, and above all between Sardinia and Tyrol. I lead every project myself, from the first call to the final report.

Panem carmina non dant.

he grandmother of one of my great-grandmothers wrote that in a letter I found in my family’s historical archive. She was urging her granddaughter to tell her brother that he had to finish his law degree, because poetry alone was no way to live, and for the gravity of the matter plain Italian was not enough, so she reached for Latin.

My ancestor’s message still makes all of us Cioglia smile, because art never did abandon us. But neither did business sense.

Art never abandoned us.
Neither did business sense.

Who I am

The sense of art runs proudly in my veins, and I have pursued it proudly, in my own way, all my life.

orn in 1987, raised in the heart of Cagliari, in the quarter of Stampace. A family part Sardinian, part Campanian, part Piedmontese, and entirely humanist. I grew up among scholars of history and archaeology, among painters’ studios and photographers’ darkrooms. The sense of art runs proudly in my veins, and I have pursued it proudly, in my own way, all my life.

First with classical studies, then with a university training as a mediator between cultures, studies as an interpreter and translator, then communication sciences.

And finally my current project: a doctorate in linguistic, literary and cultural studies, with a thesis on the visual communication of brands made in Sardinia, in which I analyse decades of graphic and advertising production. A training that took me across territories and across eras, shaping what I know about everything communication means, while living in Cagliari, Rome, Innsbruck, Berlin and London.

At the crossing

Maybe it is family karma, but being in between has always been part of who I am.

have always felt a pull towards other places: worlds that seem far away in time or space, languages and cultures that paint fascinating pictures in my mind.

That is probably why I chose to study as an interpreter. I thought I could build bridges and keep discovering. Thirst for knowledge, I would say.

I have lived in many places, rearranging my own identity more than once. There is no harder question to answer than “Where are you from?”

Erasmus brought me to Austria, and love made me stay. So it felt natural to start building bridges between the places I call home. It is the road I go home on.

Culture meets Craft

Mindful of my ancestor, though, I pursued other studies in parallel: I trained in Rome as an export specialist for Made in Italy, and in Vienna as an event manager.

athering, over the years, knowledge and judgement that is not only artistic and communicative, but managerial, and international.

And if you think the person in front of you is all theory, you are wrong. My passion for culture and for art pushed me to draw and to paint, until I became a graphic designer myself. Picking up my father’s cameras, I started gathering unique moments around the world and on all sorts of occasions.

My passion for adventure and for the sea put me on a windsurf board, and in the end pushed me to create Domus Minato: a house on the harbour, digital for now, for everyone who wants to create worlds to explore, discover themselves inside them, and share the discovery with the world.
